If you’re anything like me, you probably have summer on the brain right now. Typically, the first thing I shop for when a new season is upon us is versatile basics. Then, as I see which trends are actually sticking, I make my selections on the more statement items that are the most wearable with my basics. I’ve been combing through all our favorite retailers to find the standout picks that really win me over, and I simply had to share.
A significantly large fraction of the wardrobe essentials in my closet are from Old Navy. The Fitted Sleeveless Square-Neck Bodysuit is my go-to when I need a chic and seamless layer, and the brand’s Extra High-Waisted Wide-Leg Ripped Jeans are one of my favorite pairs to date. I could go on, but I’d rather introduce you to the latest of the retailer’s must haves: the Fitted Linen-Blend Tie-Shoulder Cropped Cami ($12, originally $30). I came across it in Old Navy’s new-arrivals section more than a month ago and have been keeping an eye on it to see if shoppers deem it worth the buy — spoiler alert: they do. When I added it to my virtual shopping cart, it had just over 50 five-star ratings and very few critical reviews, and it’s only grown in popularity in the time since. Ahead, I share why I’m among its fans and why you should scoop it up, too.
Celebrity hairdressers like Chris Appleton (who tends to the tresses of Dua Lipa and Kim Kardashian) are championing the hairstyle ahead of summer, while stylist Andrew Fitzsimons (who counts Barbie Ferreira and Megan Fox as clients) recently revealed that the style is taking LA by storm. “The snatched bun is a great one,” Andrew told R29. “Not only does it get your hair off the back of your neck in the summer, but you can use such a variety of products,” including a conditioning treatment instead of a gel (which Andrew said can improve the quality of over-processed and fragile hair), as well as hairspray or shine spray.

Since last summer, the Western kicks have exploded on TikTok, but they’ve arrived in even fuller force this year. The ‘coastal cowgirl’ aesthetic reigned supreme at Coachella, and with Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour serving as the culture-defining events of 2023, party-ready glittery and metallic cowboy boots are more in demand than ever. While the style may appear most suited to poolside holidays and music festivals, we’re here to prove that cowboy boots work just as well for everyday errands, too.
Wir haben viel über Geld gesprochen. Ich wusste zwar nicht genau, was meine Eltern verdienten, aber wir sprachen darüber, immer sparen zu müssen und keine großen Sprünge wie längere Auslandsurlaube oder Markenklamotten machen zu können. Bis ich 11 Jahre alt war, verdienten meine Eltern wenig Geld. Ich verbrachte meine Kindheit in einem strukturschwachen Bundesland, meine Mutter arbeitete meistens Teilzeit im Gesundheitsbereich und mein Vater war Hauptverdiener. Beide sind ohne finanzielle Unterstützung ihrer Familien in Ausbildung und Erwerbsleben gestartet. Wir wohnten zu viert in kleinen Mietwohnungen, zogen viel um und Restaurantbesuche gab es so gut wie gar nicht, Kinobesuche waren etwas sehr besonderes. Urlaubsreisen gab es einmal im Jahr, sie führten meist in andere Regionen in Deutschland. Dann zogen wir wegen eines besseren Jobs meines Vaters in eine größere Wohnung in ein anderes Bundesland um, und hatten drei Jahre etwas mehr Geld, lebten aber weiterhin so sparsam wie vorher. Als ich 14 war, wurde meine Mutter alleinerziehend und sie bekam Unterhalt von meinem Vater. Unser Lebensstil änderte sich ein wenig, wir fuhren zum Beispiel nicht mehr gemeinsam in den Urlaub. Es fehlte mir an nichts Essentiellem, aber ich konnte auch nicht viel Geld ausgeben. Meine Mutter wirtschaftete sparsam. Mein Vater finanzierte mir als Teenager zweimal Kurzurlaube, einmal in eine deutsche Großstadt für einen Workshop, einmal ins Ausland. Wenig, aber genügend Geld zu haben, keinen Luxus, aber ab und zu Kultur und Urlaubsreisen zu konsumieren und in Bildung zu investieren, nehme ich aus meinem Elternhaus mit. Aber auch die Schuld, meinen Eltern Geld für ein Studium gekostet zu haben, was für sie nicht selbstverständlich war.
