Last month, I shared my humble opinions on the TikTok-aesthetic craze, and I received a bit of feedback that I’d like to share. It seems that navigating trend cycles is confusing for many of us in our late 20s. They go as quickly as they come and often leave us with wardrobe pieces we no longer know how to style. The dilemma of wanting to dress both on-trend and “our age” is common among zillennials like me, and I’m determined to help. The start of spring is a great time to test-drive trends such as Western motifs, pretty things with bows, sheer fabrics, and (tasteful) polka dots in a way that doesn’t feel like you’re adopting a completely new identity. Target’s previous iterations of designer collections have sold out in mere days, whether it’s the preppy styles of Rowing Blazers or its editor-backed fall collection with Kika Vargas, La Ligne, and Sergio Hudson and spring collaboration with Fe Noel, Agua Bendita, and Rhode. However, this partnership with Diane von Furstenberg is extra special because it also features collaborations with her granddaughter, Talita von Furstenberg. The line aims to inspire all generations of women to feel confident in what they wear, from DVF’s iconic archival prints to new exclusive patterns featuring florals, animal prints, and geometric shapes. This is the very reason why the Black psychotherapist, Keeley Taverner, isn’t worried AI is coming for her job any time soon. “Well, humans need humans. And to me, therapy is a relational relationship. It’s why I physically have a room for people to come and visit,” says Taverner, Director of Key for Change, to Unbothered. Earlier this year, the British-Jamaican psychotherapist and wellbeing consultant called for more Black and culturally competent therapists in the UK to help reduce significant barriers for young Black people wanting to access therapy because they believe it’s a “white middle-class pursuit”. For Taverner, she’s skeptical Black AI therapists are a useful aid in this mission. “For some people, I would suggest [AI therapy] may be helpful as a starting gate [into therapy]. But, let’s be frank, the reality is the complexities of humanity are something you can’t replicate. I don’t believe you can replicate it in that format,” she says.
